Kandinsky did not plan to become an artist. Rather, he wanted to be a successful professor. At the age of 20, he took up law and economics at the University of Moscow. Upon passing several examinations, he started to lecture at the Moscow Faculty of Law. Kandinsky was a successful teacher, and branched out to authoring several books on spirituality. In the year 1895, Kandinsky stumbled upon a painting by Monet called “Haystacks at Giverny”. He was peeved by the fact that he did not recognize it as a haystack, and blamed the painter for not letting the object appear in the picture. It was this small incident that motivated him to go to Munich and study life drawing, sketching and anatomy – the basics for an artist’s education. After several more years of education in the arts, the founder of abstract art was born. Strangely enough, Kandinsky’s ambiguity in his works surpassed anything created by the impressionists before him. His style bordered on extremes in terms of geometric abstraction and explosive colors. Kandinsky freely splattered blobs of paint and streaks of color onto the canvas before him, letting the movement of shapes and shades speak for themselves. His paintings are wild, contemporary and intense. There is no subject - the painting itself was the whole subject. After showing his paintings across Europe and the Americas, Kandinsky's fame increased with one exhibition after another, until the world was filled with his enthusiastic supporters.
