she left her small town and went to New York to enroll herself at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League. Her artistic accomplishments are abundant and remarkable, the effects of which creating waves that implement revolutionary change not just in her time but well beyond it. Her paintings radiated authority and emotions of elements that revolve around nature. O’Keefe enjoyed using bud-like silhouettes, and it was her initial charcoal exhibit of these shadowed buds back in 1916 that made her name known to the public. In the 1920’s, she delved further into this theme, enlarging the flowers to be magnified in her paintings. The abstract floral bursts of life captivate her enthusiasts and anyone who takes a look at her paintings. Her works were enchanting, but the end goal of these creations was but a single message – that nature was infinitely beautiful, but it was also much more powerful than anybody gives it credit for. This message was in conjunction with the widespread industrialization happening around her during that period. O’Keefe spent her summer vacation in New Mexico, and the artist was mesmerized by bleak landscape and the extensive stretch of desert lands. She explored the subject of animal bones in her creations during the 30s and 40s. Just like her technique with the magnified flowers, the bones were also enlarged and a certain element of fragile isolation of the desert was visible. In spite of that, the beauty and strength shone through the stillness. In terms of her personal life, Georgia O'Keeffe married established photographer Alfred Stieglitz when she was in her 30’s. They were together for 22 years, but Stieglitz passed away a full 40 years before his wife. During the latter years of her life and her career, O’Keefe had paintings and styles that were much less inspired than the initial bud silhouettes. She focused on a rectangular door which was on an abstract wall in the sky. They were not as well-received as her initial paintings, which continue to inspire artists up to this day.
